LED are available in the market in various sizes, shapes, colors and wattage's. However, every such bulb cannot serve your purpose. Thus, before buying check the following:
- In most of the Indian houses, we use B22 bases. However, LED lamps are often made available with E 27 or basis of other specifications. So, check the base (holder) before you buy the lamp.
- Check the efficacy of the LED lamp. It should be around 80 lumens/watt or better.
- • Try to get the Colour Rendering Index (CRI) value between 80 and 100. This will help you see the things around in their natural colour.
- Select the shape of the lamp depending on where it will be used. Spiral shapes catch more dust in Indian environment. Stick shapes are good for spread in all directions. Globe and golf shapes give almost 360 degree spread. Down or spot shapes are good for localised lighting.
- Branded LED lamps are generally preferred for their tested and certified long life and lumen maintenance. The average life span needs to be around 25,000 hours.
